OLDER people across Wirral are being invited to help set up, learn and produce radio programmes for a new station that will be launched specifically for the over-50s.
Help the Aged will be launching Vintage Radio later this year, and is looking for recruits to help at this formative stage.
Regional development officer for the charity, John Cotcher, said: “There have been other groups around the country that have been very successful in running a community radio and they have offered to give us guidance.
“Although we eventually will need people to make programmes for the station, we want volunteers now to come forward to help set it up.
“That includes telling us what they want from the station, and any ideas they may have about how we can get it.
“This new station is all about the over-50s in Wirral, so it stands to reason they should be the ones in the driving seat from the start.”
John expects the station, which will be carried over the airwaves and via the internet, to start broadcasting towards the end of the year, and to contain a variety of programme formats.
