Barnston pub wins top CAMRA award

THE Fox and Hounds in Barnston village has been named Wirral Pub of the Year for 2008 by the Wirral Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

CAMRA chairman Steve Hannigan will present the award to licensee Ralph Leech tomorrow.

According to CAMRA, the Fox and Hounds is one of a sadly dying breed, the true community local pub.

It was built in 1911, originally comprising a bar and snug, with a lounge being created by Mr Leech in 1984.
