Taking to the roads

WIRRAL took a step back in time as the seventh annual Wirral Historic Vehicle Rally hit the streets on last week.

TheCountry Wirral Run saw100 cars set off fromthe Village in Bromborough, taking in a lunchtime stop at Thornton Hough and finishing at Port Sunlight by the Lady Lever Art Gallery.

The cars, entered mainly by members of the Chester Vintage Enthusiasts Club and Wirral Classic Car Club, ranged from the earliest period of motoring up to 1972 and owners competed for prestigious titles in various competition categories.

Rally committee chairman Blair Percival said: "Asusual, we had an excellent display of cars.

"Many members of the public lined the route to wave and photo-graph the cars and came to the lunchtime and finish stops.

"Judging is on a pride of owner-ship basis and as well as the condition of the car, the entrants are judged on information they display about their cars at the stops that will interest and inform the public, and also on their attire which should be appropriate to the age of the vehicle they are in."

This year this award went to Herbert Tabener, from Greasby.
