THE president of New Brighton Model Boat Club has warned the collapse of the scheme could seal the fate of the resort's historic model boating facility.
Neptune's proposals included a replacement for the model boat lake, which is said to be in a "very poor" condition.
In a letter to the 'News', David Wooley said he wanted to voice his disappointment and concern on behalf of those who use the facility.
He said: "The reason for my deep concern is that the present model boating lake is in very poor condition even though members of the club have for the past 15 years worked hard to help stave off the inevitable structural decline of the surroundings and base.
"This model boating lake is very much part of traditional New Brighton; alas if action isn't forthcoming then I fear that this facility will be lost sooner than later."
Mr Wooley said the model boating lake is used throughout the week by all age groups, describing it as "the most-used facility in New Brighton, far exceeding that of the marine lake".
He added: "I trust those opposed to the development have a plan to save this original part of the 1932 development - if not, why?"
