Charged over death of student

A POLISH carpenter appeared in court on Monday charged with drink-driving and causing the death of an 18 year-old Wirral student.

Lucas Sonta, 24, of Trafalgar Road, Wallasey, was charged at Wirral magistrates' court with causing the death of Eluned Cleverley, of Barn Hey Crescent, Meols, by driving without due care and attention in Seabank Road, Wallasey, in the early hours of Saturday.

Speaking through an interpreter, Sonta confirmed his name, age and address.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday, August 24.
