Perfect Pitch: Wirral News is media partner for Birkenhead School Concert

WIRRAL News is delighted to become the exclusive media partner for Birkenhead School’s historic 150th anniversary celebration concert.

The event will see the school host the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Vasily Petrenko, as they perform for an estimated audience of 4,000.

The concert, Perfect Pitch, which will be held on the school’s cricket pitch in June, will feature guest soloist, mezzo soprano Kathryn Rudge, and culminate with Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, including a choreographed display of fireworks.

In its 150th year the school will break new ground by staging a world-class and highly prestigious concert on a scale usually the preserve of major venues and stately homes.

Jane Clare, executive editor, said: “This partnership will see the Wirral News support what is a major cultural and family-friendly event for the local community.”

Headmaster John Clark added: “The school is delighted to present the concert in partnership with Wirral News. We are very proud that Vasily Petrenko and the Philharmonic will perform here, we want everyone to come and enjoy a fun and relaxed evening of first class music and entertainment.”

Vasily Petrenko was Chief Conductor of the State Academy Orchestra of St Petersburg before he took up his position as Principal Conductor with the RLPO in 2006. Today he is the RLPO’s Chief Conductor.

The audience will be invited to bring picnic baskets and rugs, while there will also be food and licensed bars on the night. Free parking will be at the school’s McAllester Field.
