STUDENTS at Wirral Grammar for Boys have gained excellent results this year with record numbers gaining the top grades. A total of 50% of all exam results were at the highest grade of A* and A and an impressive 81pc of results were at grades A*, A and B.
Headteacher David Hazeldine said: “It was very pleasing to see that the percentage of pupils gaining three or more points at grades A* and A had increased from 60% last year to 66% this year.
“There have been notable achievements across the whole spectrum of grades.”
The average points per candidate this year was 488, an improvement of 14 points on last year.
The nationally reported figure indicating the percentage of students gaining five or more GCSEs at grades A* to C, including Mathematics, English and science, was 96%.
There were many outstanding individual achievements. Twenty pupils gained A or A* in all of their subjects.
Tom Keningley (Bromborough), chairman of the School Council, gained an incredible 13 A* grades, Thomas Outram (Bebington), gained 12 A* grades and Michael Cearns (Heswall), gained 11 A* grades. Chris Jowitt (Ellesmere Port), Sean Done (Ellesmere Port) and Ryan Howard (Wallasey) all gained 9 A* grades.
Chairman of governors, Brian Edmondson, congratulated all pupils on their achievements.
He said: “The results reflect the excellent standards of recent years; all boys are to be congratulated on their performance.”
