IT IS hard to believe that 2013 has been and gone. It’s been a year in which we have all faced different challenges and no more than the Government in continuing to get our great nation back on its feet.
This year, I’m looking forward to continuing to work with government on behalf of the people of Wirral West, aiming to bring jobs and prosperity to Wirral and the wider Merseyside communities.
We are investing billions to support business and infrastructure to create thousands of apprenticeships and help young unemployed into work, as well as providing a whole raft of business rates support for retailers, cafes, bars, restaurants and small and medium enterprises.
In 2014, we also have two major events to look forward to in the Open Golf Championship, which returns to Hoylake.
Who can forget 2006 when the Open was last here: Mediterranean sunshine, huge crowds and, of course, the fabulous Tiger Woods taming the golf course.
The championship was a massive success last time and is set to be so again this year.
And then we have the Liverpool-based and government-supported International Festival of Business (IFB) with events being organised across Wirral to make sure that Wirral benefits from this spotlight on business.
These events, along with all the smaller but well-supported community events, promise to make 2014 a year to remember.
Finally, and most importantly, I send my very best wishes to our Armed Forces who are serving so bravely in Afghanistan and other areas of conflict around the world, and I wish everyone a very peaceful and healthy New Year.
