HOYLAKE Community Cinema is now one year old and is going from strength to strength.
It's a wonderful initiative led by a local community group Hoylake Village Life and brings cinema to Hoylake on the last Friday of every month. It's a fun, casual night which starts at 6.30, film starts at 7.30, there's a licensed bar for adults and pyjama crèche for kids.
This month's cinema night will be on October 26 and will be attended by Hollywood film director Alex Cox. Alex was born in Bebington but now teaches in the US.
Mark Howard, organiser and local resident, contacted Alex on a whim to see if he was ever back in his home town.
As luck would have it he replied he was back this October and he said he would love to come to a screening and will hold a Q&A session after the film to talk about working in the big Hollywood studios with 'A' listers such as Ed Harris, Dennis Hopper as well as musicians Elvis Costello, Debbie Harry and Joe Strummer from the Clash.
Alex loves Westerns and he believes that ‘A Few Dollars More’ has to be one of the best Spaghetti Westerns ever made. So that's the film selected to be shown that night. The screening is held at Hoylake Community Centre, Hoyle Road. Tickets cost £5 and can be bought on the door.
Wirral really is all about its community and the people who live there. This is a wonderful initiative by people in Wirral for the people of Wirral.
