Esther McVey: A busy 2011 - and a memorable sporting year ahead in 2012

I WOULD like to send special congratulations to all those Wirral residents rewarded in the New Years Honours list for their dedicated work in the community, business and other fields.

John Syvret, who has done a tremendous job turning round the fortunes of Cammell  Lairds, Jackie Hall who works tirelessly for the community and Dr Kingsland for services to General Practice, to name but a few

2011 has been a busy year for me and the Wirral West team working on your behalf, dealing with over 10,000 letters and emails, meeting with hundreds of organisations and community groups and thousands of constituents as I hold 5 surgeries a month, and I don’t see that workload changing - I’m here to work as your representative in parliament.

2012 is set to be a memorable sporting year and I’m delighted that by working with Lord Coe I ensured the Olympic Torch will come to Wirral. The Ladies Open Golf Championship comes to Wirral too and will be held at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club - working with Wirral Council we hope to have a world first, the first ever 'Ladies Day’ at the Open - so time to dust down that hat and put September in your diary!

Also to start the year I’ve been named MP of the Month by Total Politics Magazine for my work with social mobility and career guidance which I’ll now be working on for the Government.

2012 is set to be a busy year - but can I begin by wishing everyone a happy and memorable year ahead.
