Wirral News Letters: July 13

Litter worst in alleyways

EVEN though I totally agree with the council coming up with this good but very late idea (Fines for dropping litter, Wirral News July 6), as a person who works in the waste environment I was shocked to see that the council has again overlooked the growing problem of fly-tipping in the borough’s alleyways.

Aren’t the gates supposed to stop this? No. Instead it is worse than ever.

It’s getting beyond anything that Biffa and the council can do.

Where is the pride in this once lovely place?

The council needs to do door-to-door checks now and stop this smelling ugly mess!!!

No exemption

ABOUT time people were fined for dropping litter.

While they are at it they should fine the postmen who discard rubber bands anywhere and everywhere.

They are there when you open the front door; they are there all down the path; they are there around the gate. You can follow a trail of them along the pavement to the nearby streets.

When you visit other towns and cities, you see rubber bands thrown all over their streets.

Surely these items can be recycled!

Litter is litter and these people should not be exempt from fines.

Take your litter home!!

Use bins

JUST recently a pizza place has opened near me and the litter outside has been pretty bad, let alone the noise from their extractor fan.

It’s like living near the Queen Mary, let alone the disruption to the local area with skips and mess while it was getting done up. Most inconsiderate.

In the local park there is so much litter with cans and broken bottles that my son takes three carrier bags a day and fills them all. There are bins around people need to learn to use them.

Disgusting habit

THROUGHOUT summer young people like to gather together and that’s fine but do they have to leave their rubbish behind when they go home.

They enjoy a lovely evening and then leave the area looking like a rubbish dump. Come on, parents, grandparents and young people, make dropping litter as disgusting as smoking. Stop your children and friends doing it NOW.

Confusion

I PARKED my car in Monk Road, Liscard, on the non-permit side at around 5pm and came back at 5.10pm during which time I believed the car to be legally parked.

The non-permit sign reads: non permit holders Mon-Sat 9am- 5pm 90 mins; No return within 1 hour.

I read this sign as I could park as long as required from 5pm onwards as there were no further restrictions in place.

However I was given a £70 parking fee. I took a picture of the signpost and showed this to a policeman in Manor Road station. He confirmed this wasn’t a police matter but he believed my car to be legally parked.

I spoke with a traffic warden and they confirmed I also need to read the sign underneath which reads: Permit holders only Mon-Sat 8.30am-6pm.

He went on to say this happens a lot and he and his colleagues have fed this back into the authority to request the signs to be updated but are ignored.

I understand these restrictions are in place to also help the local residents but it does beg the question are they made unclear on purpose to generate funds for the local council?

Theft from shed

LAST week I had fishing gear stolen from my shed. Money’s tight at the moment, and fishing was the one hobby I could afford. The police have been informed, they say shed theft is on the increase in the local area. Please take garden security seriously.

It’s a horrible feeling when you have things stolen!!

Gender puzzler

A CURRENT Merseytravel MORI survey form being handed out to drivers using the Mersey Tunnels has Question 46 as: “Is your gender identity the same as the gender you were assigned at birth?” Can anyone think of a reason why such a question has any connection with using the tunnels? I can’t!
