Wirral Letters: Shortpoints June 29

I WAS delighted to read your article in Wirral News about POPIN.

POPIN works as part of the council’s Adult Social Services Department and provides an excellent service to any older person in the borough who requires it. We are very proud of the work that our colleagues do. Residents can contact POPIN through our call centre on 0151 606 2006 or directly on 0151 641 8932.

I am sorry that Mr Amos found that his first contact with the department was difficult and I am looking into how we can improve this.

Howard Cooper

Director of Adult Social Services, Wirral Council

We really don’t need to go too far to witness “The Green Death”, at least not much further than the Captains Pit.

A green slime has begun to spread across its surface, a suffocating murderous cloth of death and the powers-that-be reaction? Lock the gates and ban fishing; as if any fish are left alive in this green hell.

Some fishermen have told me aeration equipment is available, one wonders why it has not been put to use.

Can we expect to see several brand-new houses on this site in the years to come?

Allowing beauty such as this to vanish from the borough shows how ugly we all are becoming.

WIRRAL AGE UK shops would like to say a big thank-you to Barclays Bank plc who kindly match-funded their recent fashion show held at the British Legion, Neston. With Barclay’s help, they will have raised more than £3,000. This money will be used to help people in later life, so very many thanks to Barclays for their kind generosity.

A BIG thank you to Arrowe Park Hospital Maternity Unit for the care we received when we stayed overnight and a big thanks to the cleaners, the place was spotless and clean. Much appreciated.
