Wirral News Letters: June 8

Are our taxes worth less?

I’D LIKe to raise the issue of the appalling condition of the road surface on Hoole Road, Woodchurch.

January-February 2010 saw some awful frost and cold winter weather which caused widespread disruption to the whole of the Wirral, as well as severe damage to road surfaces.

At a later point in 2010, Hoole Road was designated for resurfacing but, oddly, only at either end where it meets Houghton and Home Farm Road.

The middle 50 per cent of Hoole Road remains a patchwork of potholes and road surfaces nearly 18 months after the original damage.

As a taxpayer I find this infuriating but imagine my recent anger when I recently saw that Belmont Road off Oxton Road in Birkenhead (a road earmarked for demolition) had been completely resurfaced!!!

Not only is this a complete waste of taxpayers’ money, but this also makes me feel that Hoole Road is for some reason being overlooked?

Are we not worthy of a decent road surface? Are our taxes worth slightly less than others?

Am I simply paranoid that we are somehow looked on as lower-class citizens because of our postcode?

Maybe I’ll ask the council employees if they’ll ever come to take down the Christmas decorations from the Hoole Road shops.

Disgusted

HAVING two girls of four years and 10 months I was absolutely disgusted to hear the screams of a tiny new-born baby that could not have been more than two weeks old getting her ears pierced in the Pyramids this week.

The baby was obviously in so much pain.

I just think if people want to bring children into the world and voluntarily subject them to unneeded pain just for vanity ... it’s sick and really upsetting for normal people to see!

I had to walk out of this particular shop when I saw this new-born screaming in pain, yet the parents put them through it!

Band are brilliant

CERTAINLY all those took part in the Wirral Coastal Walk deserve your praise but I would also like to have seen a thanks to all the youngsters who play in the band which gives them a cheerful send off.

These young musicians rehearse, pack all the instruments for transport and turn out early in cold and windy conditions to take part in this worthy cause.

We hear so much about the badly behaved, disruptive children so how about commending all the wonderful ones who work hard in the many school orchestras and give a lot of their time playing for charities.

Priority all wrong

CAN anyone in Wirral Council please explain to me why charities and essential services like Wirral Resource Centre are struggling and yet they deem it fit to sponsor Tranmere Rovers football team with thousands of pounds of our money and absolutely no benefits to us at all.

Wirral Council, your priorities stink and I hope you enjoy your perks whilst the rest of us pay for it!

At best, total money mismanagement. At worst, advantages for a handful in our council who like to be socially entertained!

Spending query

I READ with sadness in the News of the funding threat to the Wirral Resource Centre for special needs children.

I recalled other events like the disabled care overcharging scandal. I then read elsewhere the “council credit card scandal” articles and found that Wirral Council was one of those unable or unwilling to disclose how much had been spent on council credit cards, and on what, by council officers. This is despite a Coalition government mandate to publish all spending items over £500. Is the council simply tardy or have they something to hide?

No room to park

AS A Transit van driver that uses the Cherry Tree Centre car park on a regular basis I’d like to say that the parking bays are far too small!!

If I park my van there and a car parks next to me then both of us has a hard time getting in and out of our vehicles. At a time of recession like now with lots of empty shops in and around Liscard, I think parking charges at this car park should be scrapped to encourage more people into the centre.

As a side note parking tickets from private companies are unenforceable!!
