We pledge our support
AS LOBBYISTS – Wirral-based firms and firms with Wirral interests – we want to publicly state our total support for Peel Holdings’ formidably impressive plans to transform Birkenhead.
We urge businesses and politicians to throw their weight and their will behind the proposals.
The £4.5bn Wirral Waters project and the £130m International Trade Centre in Birkenhead are developments of such towering ambition that we hope they become our space race, climaxing in a generational giant leap for Birkenhead and the Wirral.
We are cannot afford to kid ourselves we are fortunate to have Peel’s talent, expertise and vision focused on us.
That is why we want to call upon national Government to follow Wirral Council’s tremendous work and do all in its power to make these projects happen. The Chancellor’s announcement that Wirral Waters will be part of the Mersey Enterprise Zone, one of 21 enterprise zones in the UK, is a promising sign.
And we wish Mr Osborne to know that businesses here recognise and applaud his contribution and wish him to go further.
Our message is simple: Make this dream a glittering reality.
Help us attract the investment from China and other countries with expanding economies.
Wirral needs foreign investment to make Wirral Waters happen, we cannot do it alone. The wealth creation and business opportunities offered by these projects cannot be overstated. As private sector bodies we passionately want these initiatives to happen and believe our region needs them to happen.

Proud of changes
SUMMER has arrived early this year in New Brighton.
The jellyfish have appeared, heralded by two enormous specimens found on the beach near the Fort.
That other harbinger of summer, the lifeguard has also appeared. Speaking to him, he commented upon the number of orphans to be seen on a busy day last weekend.
He explained he was referring to the number of children frolicking in the surf, apparently unsupervised.
He was right, the number of kids equalled the number of adults approximately, but the adults were pursuing their interests, whether eating or drinking or snoozing without apparent regard for the fate of their offspring.
I am to be seen cycling daily along the front with my Border Collie and am an expert follower of the Neptune development. It has been amazing to watch how quickly it has progressed this year. The hotel is nearly finished, the supermarket has been handed over to Morrison’s for fitting out, and the Lido, famous for being the second smallest in Europe has nearly been completed.
The new promenade should be an attraction to bring the crowds in.
Meanwhile Dougie the owner of the Fort has been excelling himself this year. It really is an asset to New Brighton.
Yes I feel proud to be part of this interesting and varied community.

Laura’s tragic tale
IT was with great sadness I read your article regarding mum of four Laura Makin’s ordeal (May 11).
I met Laura through a Surestart centre years ago when her twins were little and can say without doubt she was a fantastic mother who would not do anything to jeopardise the care of her children.
How is it that non-British citizens who kill children through dangerous driving are allowed to remain in the country, as they are entitled to a “family life” and Laura was denied the right to be tried by a jury, suffered “intolerable delays” and left in unimaginable conditions?
