Wirral News letters: April 27
Shocked by beach gangs
I WRITE with regards to my deep concern for the wellbeing and safety of good people in West Kirby this summer.
After only two weekends of nice weather, already I have witnessed alarming and disturbing incidents on West Kirby beach and surrounding areas.
The examples I write about are indeed shocking reading.
As a West Kirby resident I take great pride in our beautiful area and enjoy seeing good people enjoy the sun on our beaches. However, this has, already this year, been marred by horrific events with the police nowhere to be seen.
I have seen gangs of youths in great numbers littering the beach after drinking all day, smashing bottles for walkers and dogs to cut themselves on and even exposing themselves.
I overheard a conversation from a gang gloating about “banging out” a man in West Kirby in front of his partner and child.
There has been talk of organised battles on the beach involving large crews from other areas and with us only being in April I am very worried about the future safety of our residents.
I am in great fear for my family and friends this summer and would like to know what exactly the police intend to do, as the only solution I can think of is constant beach patrols.
Please, please let’s not hear of any more shocking and disgusting stories.

Social group plea
I WOULD like to form a much-needed evening friendship and social activities group – but not a dating agency – for single men and women over the age of 50, especially living in north Birkenhead, Moreton, Wallasey and New Brighton.
Like myself I am sure there are many men and women out there who desperately would like a social life for themselves rather than be stuck indoors, and have the opportunity of meeting and socialising with other people in similar circumstances and age.
If there are any Wirral News readers willing to help me form this group, please can they either contact me on 0151 639 6253 up to 10pm seven days a week or email globe.richard22@gmail.com for further details.

No worries
HAVING arrived home last Wednesday after just seven days in hospital, I too would like to join Mr Tony Lloyd of Meols in paying tribute and offering my sincere thanks to Arrowe Park Hospital for my full hip replacement operation.
Like anyone else, I was very worried about what was going to happen to me, but, due to the confidence and professionalism shown by the staff, who were always smiling, that worry soon vanished.
My surgeon was Mr Nigel Donnachie who was ably assisted by registrar Dr Fountain, anaesthetist Dr Stevens and a wonderful team of theatre staff. I was concerned that one leg would become shorter than the other but I was assured that should not happen and so far it has not happened.
I too was in Ward 12 which was ably managed by Sister Sue Richards and I was most impressed by how she pitched in with her team doing anything and everything that required an extra pair of hands instead of sitting behind a desk doing paperwork.
My thanks would not be complete without also mentioning all the other important staff such as cleaners, cooks, porters and administration who ensure the efficient running of the hospital.
I only hope the NHS is safe under this Coalition government but there are already signs that times are lengthening from between visiting a GP and obtaining treatment and it requires careful monitoring.

Nowhere better
I WANTED to write to say what a wonderful Easter weekend I was able to have staying in Wirral.
When the sun shines, there can be few places better in the British Isles.
Within a short drive, my family and I were able to get down to the beach at West Kirby and really take advantage of the bright weather.
It was especially welcome after such a long, and very cold, winter.
I know I would rather make the most of what we have on our doorstep than spend hours in queues at airports or a fortune on baggage allowances.
