I WAS pleased to read in the Wirral News of Kevin Williams who had lost 6 stone – and given up smoking 50 cigarettes a day – having attended a Community Programme run by the NHS. He saves more than £400 each month because of giving up cigarettes.
My wife and I have never been smokers, heavy drinkers nor overweight. So what I want to know is – if one person can save £400 monthly, the two of us – as non-smokers – should have been able to save £800 per month.
Can some genius please explain where our £800 per month has disappeared to?
Meanwhile, may I wish every success to all the people who go on programmes to lose weight, give up smoking and benefit from better health and healthier finances.
WE WISH to thank all the people who donated to our Thanks for Life/End Polio Now campaign at Morrisons store and local stations. This raised a total of £348.70.
Polio has no cure.
It maims or kills children, mainly under the age of five. It is now endemic in just four countries – Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and Nigeria. Since the campaign was launched 25 years ago the results have been astounding – from 125 countries down to four – but we still need to eradicate the virus completely. Polio is easy to prevent by vaccination – just £1 will protect five children.
If anyone wishes to learn more about the involvement of the Rotary Club of Hoylake and West Kirby to assist in this process, then please telephone 07980 187 888.
