Leave our kids alone!
I WAS angry and disappointed when my 15-year old daughter and her friend returned home after a visit to their local park recently.
The girls (who are well brought up) were sitting on the big swings on their own.
They explained how a man with his toddler daughter (who was on the baby swings) told the girls they shouldn't be in the park as it is for “children” not teenagers.
Teenagers are “children'” until they are 16/18 and are certainly allowed to use the park – as any age group are.
There are few activities available for teenagers on the Wirral that don't cost money and it is a shame they are treated this way... as I'm sure this man will soon discover when his daughter gets older.
People like him give our teenagers a hard time, when most of them are polite and well behaved.
There are obviously a minority that are not.
But doesn't this apply to all age groups, including middle aged men?

We owe it to them
I ASK where these replacement respite facilities that we are told abound are, and what will they cost to us as council tax payers, and what are the savings?
If what I was told the other day is correct, that the council has sought out beds in old peoples homes providing they can guarantee four beds to replace the superb facilities they have deemed to close, only adds insult to injury in the heartless manner in which they are treating the vulnerable in our society here in heartless Wirral.
I'd advise everyone involved in the care of loved ones who need these invaluable facilities to write to David Cameron and inform him that you can't cope anymore.
And as difficult a decision as it is, the council will have to find permanent placements for our loved ones.
They'll find the money then, such is the massive increase in cost of these placements. Surely it is not beyond the wit of these who decide where these monies go to reroute a minute amount of cash to keep open our invaluable respite homes here on the Wirral. Silence is acceptance, do it – you owe it to those you love and cherish.

Stop the lopping
MY wife and I tend to stroll through Ashton Park several times a week. However, we are angered at the continuous assault on the trees and shrubs there.
The incessant felling and lopping is a waste of tax-payers’ money. If anyone who thinks this council-sponsored vandalism makes the place look better, I would say: “If only they’d gone to Specsavers.”

Bring back discs
SO the council has come up with a great new idea to boost trade, in the form of free parking after 3pm!
They need to bring back the two-hour free disc parking in Birkenhead and even extend it to other towns in Wirral.
Hardly anyone uses the chargeable parking areas now, so the council has probably never recouped the cost of installing the ticket machines, let alone made a profit.
Yet another idiotic example of wasting ratepayers' money.

Ignorant owners
IGNORANT dog owners who allow their dogs to foul the pavement around Prenton Primary school should be ashamed of themselves if they don't clear up after their dogs.
Children never look where they are going and parents are sick (sometimes literally) of having to clean their children’s shoes.
It is even worse when they get into a car with dirt on their shoes.
When one of the teachers was trying to teach the children road safety asked what they should look for when they reached the kerb, one child answered dog muck! If these dog owners were heavily fined maybe they would think twice.

Cynical hype
AS THE main political parties gear up for the campaign on voting reform there are no surprises from the analysis of MPs’ intentions and where they stand with regard to the referendum in May.
The majority appear to support maintenance of the status quo in terms of ‘first past the post’.
But then when did turkeys ever vote for Christmas?
It strikes me that the last place to look for guidance should be our MPs who clearly have an axe to grind, what with boundary changes and reduction in the number of seats which could see some of them suffering redundancy at the next Election.
For once our politicians should spare us all the cynical hype on this important constitutional issue.

Act of kindness
I WOULD very much like to thank the young couple who came to my help on the 413 bus going to Manor Road in Liscard on February 14, when I had a bad fall.
Also, the driver showed a lot of compassion and help.
The young man took his coat off and put it under my head.
I wanted to say a great big thank you. I sincerely hope you will be repaid in the future for your act of kindness.

Top marks to MP
REGARDS Alison McGovern MP ‘s letter (February 16) – it was very refreshing to see, in this day and age, an MP that obviously cares for their constituents.
Top marks to you Alison – you will definitely get my vote next time.
