Wirral Letters: Shortpoints February 16

RE: The plan to run the DC power cable across Wirral.

Has this been done anywhere else, and what effects have there been, ie from the magnetic field?

Why can it not be taken direct to Connah’s Quay down the river Dee, or to the Hoyle Windfarm landing site rather than the massive disruption to the Wirral?

EASTHAM Village Preservation Association wish to make it known that as an association it was NOT involved in the pruning of the trees at St. Mary’s Church yard , Eastham (Bromborough and Bebington News, February 9). The association is equally concerned at the severe pruning of the trees.

WHEN we as a nation are expected to tighten our belts in order to rebalance the economy, why are the major supermarkets taking advantage of their customers?

We now find that if we want to buy a large range of regular items, we can only get them at the correct price if we buy two or three at a time.

What a miserable policy that hits families on very tight budgets, while the stores battle for increased market share. We are being ripped off without any reasonable consideration of individual circumstances.

MANY thanks to the kind man who picked me up when I fell in Park Road North and fractured the head of the humerus. He then called the ambulance for me. I am now at home recovering. I hope I did not delay him too much.

AMONGST all the controversy regarding the tunnel tolls, I am surprised that no one has come up with the idea of only charging one way. Many other crossings and tunnels operate on this basis with both savings in expenses and congestion.

With the current price of fuel, the tunnel plus its fees is probably a better alternative than “the long way round”. I should be interested to hear the views of the tunnel authorities.
