Wirral News letters: February 9

Get out and start again

I HAVE been amazed at the antics taking place in Calday Grange Grammar School.

For what seems like a very long time this problem between the board of governors and a member of staff has been rumbling on and on, with the inevitable result that changes have, and are, taking place that could jeopardise the long-term education and future prospects of hundreds, if not thousands of pupils.

I am the grandparent of some of these pupils and I know they are going through a very crucial period of their education and upbringing as young men.

They do not need any other obstacles in their path.

I know very little of the whys and wherefores of the dispute, other than what I have read in the newspapers and that has been very limited.

I suspect many of the parents, guardians, and relatives of the pupils are in the same boat.

This whole affair should be brought to a conclusion one way or the other.

If the Chair of the Governors and the Board are sure of their position then sack the head completely, and let the due course take its place.

Or else resign en-bloc and let the issue be resolved in a new and fresh step forward.

Stop the rot

I AM a victim of the factory closure at Givaudan, Bromborough.

There will be 150 redundancies at Bromborough, while 24 roles will be transferred to other sites.

Some employees have been there over 40 years and are totally devastated.

With very little support from Wirral MP Alison McGovern, workers are resigned to the closure without hope.

The community of Moreton has been rocked by the news that Burton’s is to close with the loss of all 342 jobs.

Angela Eagle MP, the Labour MP for Wallasey seems to be mounting support to try and save the Burton factory.

Remploy in Wallasey is to close with loss of valuable jobs for people with disabilities. Add on the council cuts and it makes for a grim outlook with almost 18 people chasing every job now, and that could rocket to over 30 by 2011. We are calling on councillors and business leaders to help stop the rot.

We’ll do your job

I WOULD like to apply for the position of Honorary Traffic Warden.

My flat in West Wirral overlooks double yellow lines.

I think I could have supported the entire Wirral budget had I been able to levy fines for the number of people who parked without any consideration for their fellow residents.

Wirral Council seems incapable of enforcing regulations so why not let the ratepayers have a go?

Dog woe

I TAKE out my dog regularly through the woods in Bromborough and I am appalled at the lack of bins for disposing dog poo.

Surely a bin at the entrance to woody areas where vehicles can gain access is not too much to ask.

I am sure it can’t be very hygienic walking for a few miles with a bag of poo in your hand.

The last straw finally came recently when I was willing to run down the slope at the station to dispose of my doggie bag in the platform bin and I was refused permission.

What am I supposed to do? Hang it on railings alongside others?

Appalling image

I WAS appalled to see the photo in Wirral News (Jan 19) of the great pile of refuse dumped in the passage.

If the depositors had put the offending refuse in suitable bin bags or other such bags preferably tied, I am sure this would have been removed by the usual team. They cannot be expected to handpick and back such deposits which will no doubt be removed by a special collection at additional cost to our rates.

Rubbish troubles

I AM sick to death of everybody moaning about the rubbish on the streets of Birkenhead and Liverpool. The reason for this is quite obvious to me at least. Take a walk through Hoylake Market Street and you will notice how clean it is: Why?

It’s because there is a public bin on every street corner. Whereas in Birkenhead and Liverpool there is a public bin approx every mile. Any wonder people just chuck rubbish in the street?
