I WAS very interested in the article in your paper from the new chief executive for Claire House Hospice. I agree that it is a magical place – the staff are wonderful as Mr Pastor rightly mentions.
I have been involved with Claire House charity shops for many years. Stalwart work is done by managers and volunteers in these shops. The volunteers are mostly retired people who still feel useful enough to help out (and enjoy the feeling) so are willing to give time for this necessary hospice.
It would have been much appreciated if Mr Pastor had mentioned how invaluable the shops (managers and helpers too) are, as I’m sure it would be struggling and not the success it is without the managers and dedicated (mostly elderly people) who give their time.

YOUR correspondent notes that Wirral issued only one penalty for dog fouling in a period when Liverpool had issued 581.
I suggest that our council should hand responsibility for penalising dog fouling to the firm which issues parking tickets.
You might resent these people if they give you a parking ticket, but they do the job with remarkable diligence AND they were not deterred by the bad weather of November and December.
