Wirral News Letters: Your views on Wirral’s bin collection backlog

Bin unhappy

AT time of correspondence it has been three and a half weeks since Gorsefield Road has encountered a green bin refuse collection.

While admittedly we have had out-of-the-normal weather conditions, they have hardly been Arctic like. While countries like Russia and Norway encounter far more treacherous conditions than the UK, their basic amenities are met on time and without fuss. Let us not forget that for the privilege of such service our charges have more than doubled over the last 10 years.

It maybe would not have been so bad had we had a collection every week so the resulting pile up would have been less considerable.

Also as a result of the build up there is litter and ripped bags strewn across many of the streets and roads in the surrounding area.

This weather just seems a feeble excuse for the public paid to cop out.

Will we learn for the future and plan and prepare for similar events?

I doubt it very much.

Praise them

IN response to the ‘Vilela Family’ who asked what we pay council tax for (Letters, January 20).

I am in full support of the refuse collectors not operating during the snowy period, as I for one did not want a 23-tonne truck winging its way down my road with the risk of skidding into parked cars.

I think people fail to realise that there was a grit shortage on a national level and therefore our council should be praised for gritting the main routes that they were able to, given the amount of grit they had at their disposal.

Give me a job!

I AM writing to apply for a job vacancy as a binman. Or is it bin person, refuse collector detritus controller or some other imbecilic title?

Either way I wish to collect householder's rubbish which is left outside their premises, which if you live by me, is quite a long time.

I am quite aware that I should apply via a standard method of application however I wish to strike while the iron is hot, as it is evident that Wirral Council is desperate to fill these vacancies, judging by the plethora of overflowing bins that I can see when looking out of my front window, or when jumping up and down on the lid of the recycle bin in a vain attempt to close it adequately.

Scouring the papers I could not find any news of a tragic explosion at the rubbish depot which would explain the mysterious absence of the binpersons.

Not only can I wheel a bin by pushing, I can also pull! One handed! I can also lift the bin to tip the contents (well the majority) into the bin wagon. Following this I will then drop or throw the bin from where I stand in a random direction. Or alternatively drag it to a property of my choosing on a whim, regardless as to whether the bin has a house number clearly displayed on it.

Don't expect me to work if it's a bit icy though. Sorry I forgot for a moment there. You actually don't.

Incidentally, I look forward to the forthcoming rebate in the council tax as we are paying for a service that is not actually being provided. Shoddy as it was, the residents and I do hope the second rate service will resume shortly.

This current situation is unacceptable and infuriating. Surely this debacle could have been avoided with just an iota of forward planning and common sense.

Anyway, when and where do I start?
