Wirral News letters – July 15

Supporters must make views clear

I BELIEVE that a fresh planning application has been submitted for the much-needed doctors’ surgery on a new site at the former Warrens Nursery.

The patients of the West Wirral Group Practice surely deserve this latest attempt to replace the grossly inadequate premises in Rocky Lane, Thingwall and Irby to succeed.

If, like me, you are a patient of the practice I urge you to do all you can to support this latest application. Please write to this newspaper. Write also to the planning department and your local councillor.

Please urge your friends and neighbours, who may be patients of the practice, to do the same.

You can rest assured that those who do not want us to have a new surgery will be coming out in force to oppose this new proposal.

Act now.

Junk mail

SO Wirral PCT is pressing ahead with its planning application for the new health facilities at the Warrens site.

This follows hard on the heels of Wirral Council attempting to close Irby Library, the fate of which is now in the hands of the Charteris inquiry.

Does nobody take an overview of the effect of removing two major facilities from Irby Village, causing residents to travel further for services which should be best provided locally.

The PCT claims overwhelming support for their plans based on a consultation which attracted a 22.5% response.

One wonders what the 77.5% who did not respond felt about the plan. Could it be that the PCT consultation document was consigned to the bin with the rest of the junk mail before people got as far as the "consultation"?

The position of the new site is far more secluded and more difficult for pedestrian access than the original and vehicle access on to Arrowe Park road is either going to be very hazardous or need yet another set of traffic lights.

It will also require the felling of many mature trees.

Irby is one of the best remaining examples of a village community in Wirral. Is it too much to ask that it should be kept that way and retain it's services?

Resign now

THESE so-called MPs who took taxpayers’ hard-earned money for their own comforts should be made to pay back the money.

They should be prosecuted for what they have done and they should go now, not wait until the next election.

Waste not want

NESTON is relatively fortunate in that, on the Clayhill Estate, we have a recycling facility that deals with all kinds of waste.

It claims to have a 79% success. However, talking recently to a couple of (very pleasant and knowledgeable) employees at Clayhill, I was shocked to learn (and observe!) how many people simply cannot be bothered to sort out their rubbish, flinging everything into the “household waste” skip.

This is not only lazy, it is irresponsible given that there are many clear options.

The household waste skips have to be gone through (not a pleasant job), to ensure that inappropriate material isn’t included.

I watched one employee undertaking this work and was appalled to see how much material could have been easily recycled and secondly, how many items of furniture, clothing, household equipment, toys, ornaments etc could have been taken to charity shops.

We need to encourage people to think seriously about how they dispose of unwanted goods.

Home comforts

RECENTLY I have read about residents in a street in Wallasey complaining about children constantly playing football and damaging cars and property in their street.

Well I would like to offer my sympathy and say they are not the only ones suffering.

I have lived in my road for a good few years now after moving here from abroad. Some of the children in this street are constantly out all day and evening, kicking footballs about, over peoples fences and walls, at neighbours cars etc.

The parents seem to have no control over them, either that or they do not care as long as they are out of their hair and bothering other people.

I feel I cannot relax in my own home or god forbid, take in the fresh air in the garden because it’s too noisy.

I am in bad health and have a small child to look after, so I am really regretting moving here.

I just wish parents would take some responsibility.

Badge blues

I CAN fully sympathise with Helen Woods, regarding her being given a blue parking badge for her son (July 1).

I have a blue badge and I too have been verbally abused when I park in these special bays.

I have CHD (coronary heart disease) with angina, which means I can walk normally but not very far without getting chest pains and shortness of breath.

Also my wife has osteoarthritis so if possible we like to park as close as we can to where we are going.

What these idiots do not realise is that these badges are not always in the drivers’ name and a wheelchair is not always needed to obtain a badge.

As a last note, thanks to all the people in Greasby who park in these bays (we have a total of three in the village area) without a blue badge to go to the cash machine, post office or the wine bar etc.

Pot and kettle

I WRITE re the ultimatum to the Catholic Church regarding the maintenance of St Peter and Paul's. Talk about pot calling kettle black! This same council has allowed so many buildings, especially libraries, to become in great need of repair and it has the cheek to criticise the church!

Get your own house in order council.

Common sense

GOOD to see that Wirral Council is forcing the Catholic Diocese of Shrewsbury to make the necessary repairs to St Peter and Paul’s, New Brighton.

Surely it makes sense to spend the

parishioner's gift aid money on the repairs, rather on buying and refurbishing and buying the Anglican church of All Saints, which the majority of SS Peter and

Paul's former parishioners won't attend.
