No logic in toll news

I READ with interest the news that Merseytravel is kindly letting us off an increase in tunnel tolls due to the recession (www.wirralnews.co.uk, Thursday)

What struck me was the assumption by Merseytravel that there should be an automatic yearly increase and we should be grateful that they have chosen not to implement it this year.

At a time when wage costs have been kept low and repair costs are cheaper “due to the recession”, how can they justify this assumption, especially as inflation is under control and interest rates have dropped to an all-time low.

Should we apply this logic to wage rises and benefit increases and all expect year on year rises above inflation? I’m sure the Government would go for that one!

Don’t be fooled - we have been given nothing.
