COUNCILLOR Steve Foulkes betrays how out of touch he is by his statement (Birkenhead edition, January 7) that 'Central Library is not...on a main bus route'.
He obviously doesn't ever use public transport or he would know that Borough Road is served by umpteen bus routes to such diverse destinations as Heswall, West Kirby and Seacombe.
So I imagine that he doesn't use the services that he is proposing to cut, either, or else he'd appreciate just how popular they are.

Lions’ thanks
MAY I, as fundraising chairman of Wallasey Lions, say a big thank you to the kind hearted people of Wallasey.
Each Christmas time we take the sleigh, Santa and all his helpers and collect door to door in the Wallasey area and at Asda, Lidl and Liscard Precinct.
This year we collected over £5,000. All of this money will all go to local worthy causes.
So this is a big thank you to the shoppers and residents for their generosity and to the management and staff at Asda, Lidl & the precinct for their assistance & co-operation.
I feel I must also mention the parents, grandparents and children for their enthusiasm in welcoming us at their doors on some quite chilly nights.
Without you none of this would have been possible.

Merry band
HOW nice it was to hear the 'Wild Shepherd' folk group with their renditions of traditional carols and some lesser-known songs on Christmas Eve in the Crescent in West Kirby.
I'm sure that I wasn't the only one who was entertained by this merry band, collecting donations in aid of Stanley and Meadowside schools.
It really looked like they were enjoying themselves. I hope those collecting tins were full. An admirable effort!
