TRANMERE have lodged an appeal against Liam Ridehalgh’s dismissal in the 1-0 defeat to Port Vale on Saturday, in the hope of getting the one-match suspension withdrawn.
Ridehalgh was shown a straight red card by referee Paul Tierney for his 32nd minute challenge on Chris Birchall, which led to a penalty kick.
Rovers risk the suspension being increased if the FA judge the appeal to be frivolous. But club officials feel Ridehalgh’s challenge was a genuine attempt to win the ball.
Manager Ronnie Moore said: “Liam was unlucky with the sending-off. I have looked at it again on video and we’re going to appeal against it. The challenge was shoulder to shoulder. I don’t think it was a deliberate attempt to bring the attacking player down. I think it is worth making an appeal.”
