WIRRAL actor Steve Hazlehurst steps back into the shoes of former Tranmere, Everton and England centre-forward Dixie Dean next month.
The Dixie Dean Story, a stage show produced by Gill Beattie and John Keith, will be performed at Port Sunlight’s Gladstone Theatre on the evening of Friday, October 25.
Hazlehurst was born in the same north end of Birkenhead as the record-breaking goalscorer, he attended the same Laird Street school and, like Dixie, he even played No 9 in the school team.
The actor said: “The links between Dixie and I are very spooky.
“Since our first show in 2008 I feel I’ve really got to know him.
“His is a remarkable story, one of great human interest, which starts with his boyhood in Birkenhead in the early years of the 20th century when he dreamed of playing for Everton. His talent shone at Tranmere and earned him his cherished move to Goodison where he reached the stars as the greatest centre-forward of them all.”
TICKETS (£16 with £13 concessions) are available in person from the theatre box office Monday to Friday or by calling 0151-643 8757. They are also available at the website www.gladstonetheatre.org.uk
