Johhny King statue miniature to be unveiled at Tranmere
A MINIATURE model of a statue honouring Johnny King will be unveiled by the Tranmere Rovers Supporters Trust prior to the game against Brentford at Prenton Park this weekend.
The maquette, which sculptor Tom Murphy has spent the last three months crafting, will be on display in Aldo’s Bar behind the Kop Stand from 12.30pm to 2.30pm when all supporters will be able to get their first glimpse of what the final life-size bronze statue will look like.
The model has already received the seal of approval from King himself, who recently joined Trust Chairman Ben Harrison on a visit to Tom Murphy’s home. Murphy, whose works include the statues of Bill Shankly at Anfield and Dixie Dean at Everton, will be in attendance.
The Trust plan to announce a number of fund-raising initiatives at the unveiling, through which they intend to raise the remainder of the £50,000 required to complete the project.
Chairman Ben Harrison said: “We’re very excited about finally unveiling the maquette. All the Trust board have been thrilled to see the results of Tom’s efforts over the last three months and we’re sure it will create quite a buzz.”
