Tranmere Rovers Youth 2 Macclesfield Youth 3: TRANMERE’S long run of defeats in the Football League Youth Alliance took a heartbreaking turn as a first victory of the season was snatched from their grasp in the final five minutes at Raby Vale.
Rovers had been leading 2-1 thanks to a brace of goals from Joe Conchie. But they allowed Macclesfield to seize the initiative in the final half-hour and after coming under sustained pressure, conceded goals in the 85th and 90th minutes.
Head of Academy Shaun Garnett said: “The boys are not used to winning games and they got into a bit of a panic at times in the later stages of the game. They played into Macclesfield’s hands and invited the pressure. It’s a situation they had not been in this season and they were not able to handle it.
“The encouraging thing was they played well enough to get their noses in front. But there is still a lot they must learn.”
Tranmere have no game this weekend. The next Youth Alliance fixture is at home to Oldham on Saturday, December 8.
