TRANMERE have moved back into the loan market to sign ex- Liverpool striker Nathan Eccleston from Blackpool.
The 21-year-old has signed in time to face Preston at Prenton Park tomorrow.
Manager Ronnie Moore was determined to reinforce Rovers’ attacking options at a time when injuries are hitting his small squad and results have taken a turn for the worse for the first time this season.
Eccleston came through Liverpool’s Academy and made appearances for the club in the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League. He also spent time on loan at Huddersfield and Charlton before joining Blackpool in August.
He has been given permission by Blackpool to play in the FA Cup for Tranmere.
Moore said: “I’m really pleased to be able to bring in a player of Nathan’s quality – there were quite a few League One clubs interested in signing him.
“He’s quick and strong and can score goals and he’ll be a good addition to our squad.
“With Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro and Jake Jervis both out injured Nathan will give us a bit more pace in attack.
“I’m grateful to Ian Holloway and Blackpool for letting him come to us.”
Tranmere thought they had found an ideal replacement for long term casualty Akpa Akpro by signing Jervis from Birmingham City last weekend.
But the 21-year-old sustained an ankle injury after scoring on his debut at Bournemouth. The knock put him out for a fortnight and Birmingham won’t permit Jervis to play in Tranmere’s FA Cup first round tie at Braintree a week on Sunday.
Moore said: “Jake Jervis is going to be out for another two weeks. Birmingham won’t let him play in the FA Cup the following week. So basically it’s better he goes back to them for the time being. Then maybe he can come back to us for the final two games of the loan spell.”
