Rover Flow: Tranmere and Sheffield United show that good football can come cheap

WHO says money is the only thing that can bring success in football?

To be fair, that particular idiom rings truer than most in the modern game, but the release of the BBC’s “Price of Football” survey this week at least hinted that some clubs are bucking the trend.

Tranmere, of course, are one. They ranked as the second cheapest club to watch in League One and, sitting top of the table as the league’s top scorers, they must surely be the best value for money.

Surprisingly, perhaps, it was Sheffield United who came out as the cheapest club to go and see in the division. The Blades currently sit third, and will also surely be in the promotion mix this season. Money talks, but not so loudly in League One.
