THEY say goalkeepers are a breed apart and Tranmere’s Owain Fon Williams admits to a masochistic streak.
”I’ve always liked putting my body on the line, as mad as it sounds,” said the Welshman, who sustained a broken hand in training that cost him two months on the sidelines this season.
Fon Williams went on: “The pain bit? Well, being a goalkeeper you are going to get hurt.
“I don’t mind getting hurt as long as I save the ball.
“It’s what I’m here to do. I don’t want to get hurt but if I have to in saving the ball, then so be it.”
l Tranmere’s Central League fixture against Burnley, originally scheduled for this week, has been rearranged for Monday, April 30, kick-off 7pm at Turf Moor. The switch was made because Burnley had FA Youth Cup commitments.
Rovers under 18s were beaten 3-2 by Blackpool in the Lancashire FA Cup, in spite of goals by Jordan Holmes and Will Vaulks. They travel to Rochdale in a Youth Alliance fixture today.
