TRANMERE’S bright start to the Football League Youth Alliance campaign was checked by defeat to the Cumbrians in a rescheduled game at Raby Vale.
Rovers missed an early penalty, trailed 1-0 at half-time and lost another goal soon after the restart. Ellis Healing pulled one back but the home side lost concentration from a free kick 10 minutes from time to concede a third goal.
Head of Youth Shaun Garnett had no complaints about the result.
Garnett said: “I was hoping we would build on our win over Wrexham the previous week but instead it was like we had taken three steps forward and then two backwards.
“The lads will have to learn that if they get up near the top of the table, other teams will be keen to take their scalp. The lads were all very disappointed.”
