Tranmere supporters raise over £4,000 for British Legion Poppy Appeal

TRANMERE Rovers supporters raised more than £4200 for the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal through a double-header of initiatives organised by the Wirral club.

An online auction of special shirts worn by the players for a 4-2 win over MK Dons at Prenton Park at the end of October proved a huge success. The shirts featured a poppy on the chest and were signed by the players. Supporters also contributed generously to a ground collection, which was supported by servicemen of the Mercian Regiment.

Tranmere chief executive Mick Horton said: "I would like to thank all of the supporters who contributed to the fantastic sum raised for the Poppy Appeal.

"There was huge interest in our shirt auctions and I'm pleased to say that 16 Tranmere fans now own a unique shirt.

"We are proud to have joined forces with the Royal British Legion over the past few years and this year's total is the most fans have raised."

Chris Williams, Poppy Appeal organiser from the Birkenhead branch of the Royal British Legion said: "We were thrilled to work with Tranmere and the Mercian Regiment to raise the funds. Much welfare work is carried out by the Legion on the Wirral."
