CRAIG CURRAN cut his career-long ties to Tranmere last night by joining League One rivals Carlisle United.
The 20-year-old frontman signed a two-year contract with the Cumbrians after rejecting an offer to stay on at Prenton Park.
Curran, a product of Rovers’ youth development system, first broke into the senior ranks in the 2006/07 season, scoring a hat-trick against Brentford in the final game of the campaign.
But it was pace, hard-running and persistence, rather than predatory skills, that became the strengths of Curran’s game in 111 first team appearances yielding 16 goals.
Carlisle manager Gregg Abbott has indicated his intention to give Curran a chance to shine in his preferred central striking role.
Carlisle also secured a new deal with former Tranmere striker Jason Price yesterday.
The well-travelled Welshman spent time on loan at Brunton Park last season from Millwall and has signed a one-year contract.
Meanwhile ex-Rovers defender Ian Sharps is settling into a new life at Shrewsbury Town.
Centre-back Sharps joined the Shrews on a two-year contract after turning down the chance to stay with Rotherham United.
