Tranmere Rovers manager Les Parry is relying on a massive atmosphere at Prenton Park for crucial match with Millwall

PRENTON Park will be crackling with the atmosphere of a big, high-stakes occasion when Millwall visit on Saturday - and that suits Tranmere manager Les Parry just fine.

Parry welcomes the fact that the Lions, chasing an automatic promotion ticket, will be under as much pressure for a result as his own side, who need the points for the fight against relegation.

“There is going to be a massive atmosphere,” said Parry.

“I don’t mind Millwall being in the position they are in because they are under pressure as well as us.

“It’s better than playing one of the teams who can’t do anything better than be in the play-offs. I think that would be a harder task for us. I think it’s going to be a great game.”

Millwall are close to selling out their allocation of 2,000 seats at the Cowshed end of the ground while Tranmere are asking fans for as much vocal backing as they can muster in the final home game of the 2009/10 campaign.

Parry said: “Millwall have some of the best and noisiest fans in the land for getting behind their team. Our fans will have their work cut out to out-sing them but I’m sure they will have a big go at it.”

Meanwhile George Friend believes Exeter City can shut the door on one of Tranmere’s relegation escape routes this weekend.

The defender reckons the Grecians will be travelling to Hartlepool United on Saturday in confident mood knowing that a victory at Victoria Park could be enough to preserve their Coca-Cola League One status.

With two games of the season remaining, Exeter on 47 points are two points above the relegation zone and with a much-superior goal difference to Rovers, who occupy 21st place.

Should Exeter draw or win on Saturday and Rovers lose at home to Millwall, then City will be as good as safe. However, Gillingham (47 points, -14 goal difference), Leyton Orient (48, -11) and Yeovil (50, -6) are also not out of the woods yet.

“We moved up a place in the table over the weekend and that’s brilliant,” said Friend, who saw the 1-1 draw with Charlton as a positive result. He added: “It keeps the momentum going towards Hartlepool. We can build it up and go after the result we need.

“They are no mugs, but there is a real confidence around the place that we can go up there and do well against them.”
