TRANMERE paid the price for some loose play as they went out of the Cheshire Premier Cup at Prenton Park.
A Rovers line-up including half a dozen senior pros edged 2-1 in front after just over half an hour thanks to two goals from striker Kithson Bain.
But Macclesfield capitalised on the home team’s tendency to give the ball away in dangerous areas to draw level by half-time and secure a two-goal winning margin by the 71st minute.
Coach Shaun Garnett said: “Every goal we conceded was a result of giving the ball away in a costly situation and that’s why we failed to progress in the competition. But the six pros in the side needed a game under their belts and got one. Everyone worked hard and there were some pleasing aspects to the performance.”
