AN EXCEPTIONAL goal by Dale Jennings providing the highlight as Tranmere’s youngsters secured a fourth straight Puma Youth Alliance victory at the Moss Rose.
Rovers, the dominant side throughout, were unable to capitalise on a succession of chances and needed a late strike from Jay Gibbs to secure all three Northwest Conference points after Macclesfield levelled against the run of play.
Head of Youth Kenny Shiels said: “The performance was good and the winning margin could have been so much more comfortable. If we had failed to win the game the lads would have been taught an important lesson but the determination they showed to get back in front right at the end was pleasing.
“Dale Jennings’ goal was one of the best I have seen this level with team play and individual skill playing their part.”
The visitors put together a 20-pass move before Jennings took the ball past a succession of home defenders on a run from the halfway line to the penalty area, where he toe-poked the ball home.
Macclesfield snatched an equaliser from a corner but there was just enough time left for Gibbs to make a storming run from the back, collect a pass from Jennings and notch the winner with a composed finish.
Tranmere Youth travel to Morecambe on Saturday (kick-off 11am).
