LES PARRY described Tranmere’s nail-biting success over Leyton Orient as a “massive victory.”
But the Rovers manager insisted the significance of the result went beyond lifting his side out of the League One relegation zone for the first time in six months.
“It was a massive victory because we have to win our home games against teams who are mid-table and below,” Parry said.
“I’m sure the lads are pleased to come out of the bottom four. It does not bother me in the least. There’s only one league table that matters and that is the league table on May 8.
“If we can stay out of the relegation places I would love to go into the last two or three games of the season in a position where we can relax a bit.”
He added: “We played well in the first half and could have been more than two goals up. It is easy to criticise players but when you’re in the bottom four and 2-0 at half-time, trying to say to them ‘don’t drop deep’ is a waste of time. The problem with dropping off is that when you clear the ball, it comes back at you all the time. The one thing we wanted to avoid was conceding a goal. We wanted to keep a clean sheet through the second half. We were not able to do that but fortunately Orient scored with only a few minutes to go. I would much rather we had a quiet 2-0 win but it was a roller-coaster ride.”
