Wolverhampton Wanderers FA Cup clash awaits Tranmere - if they can get past Aldershot

CARETAKER manager Les Parry admitted the frustration factor undermined Tranmere’s efforts to book a place in the third round of the FA Cup – and an attractive home tie with Wolves – at the first attempt.

Rovers’ football became ragged towards the end of the goalless draw with Aldershot at Prenton Park as they struggled to break down the League Two visitors’ well organised defence.

Parry said: “We created some good chances in the first half and one or two in the second but the game got a bit scrappy towards the end.

“I think it was just the last 15 minutes but you tend to remember that. I think it was down to us getting a little bit over eager.

“We said at half-time that the longer the game went on, the more Aldershot would sit back and we should not get frustrated. But we did get frustrated. We tried to force the issue and that’s how we got sloppy.”

A visit to the Recreation Ground on Tuesday, December 8 wasn’t what Parry and his temporary management team were hoping for. But they will be fired by the incentive of tackling Premier League newcomers Wolves at Prenton Park should they win through.
