A YOUNG Tranmere side produced a strong and encouraging performance to take a Puma Youth Alliance point off Wigan Athletic at Raby Vale.
Rovers, with half a dozen under-16 players in the line-up, went ahead on 43 minutes when Will Vaulkes headed in. They were denied a victory by a Wigan equaliser two minutes into injury time.
Head of youth Kenny Shiels said: “The boys were disappointed about conceding the equaliser so late on but it was a very pleasing performance. We put a good number of under-16 players into the side because many of the older boys would have otherwise been playing three games in seven days.”
