Tranmere caretaker manager Les Parry was frustrated following Charlie Barnett’s dismissal at Hartlepool

Parry added: "If Charlie had gone in dangerously then I would say it was his own fault but that's not the case. He's been unlucky with this one."

Liverpool-born Barnett is keen to show he can force his way into the first-team picture at Prenton Park after making less than a handful of appearances this season.

The 21-year-old, a former FA Youth Cup winner with Liverpool, made around 30 senior appearances after fighting his way into Ronnie Moore's team during the second half of last season.

But he struggled to find a place in John Barnes' team before the former Liverpool and England winger was sacked two months into the season.

Parry welcomed Tranmere's home pairing with League One rivals Orient in the FA Cup first round. "It's good to be at home," Parry said.

Former Tranmere centre back Ben Chorley, who moved to Orient last summer, was quick to contact Parry after the draw was made.

"Ben was on the phone straight away," Parry said. "He had an excellent season with us last year and that helped to earn him a great move to Orient."

Meanwhile, John Barnes is looking to make a quick return to football - as coach of the Rwanda national team.

Barnes, dismissed after just five months in charge at Prenton Park, has applied for the job with one of Africa's poorest and most troubled nations.

Rwandan sports minister Joseph Habineza said: "John Barnes has contacted us about the job. We have his CV, and are weighing up the possibilities."

l Meanwhile Tranmere are marking their 125th anniversary celebrations by reducing admission prices for the League One game against Swindon Town on Saturday.

Adults will pay just £12.50 and juniors only £1.25 in the Main Stand, Paddocks, Johnny King Stand and Kop Stand.

As part of the celebrations, the club is planning a parade of former players on the pitch, a special souvenir programme and a special version of the half time challenge, The R Factor, featuring some former crowd favourites.

Supporters wishing to take advantage of the special admission discount must purchase their tickets in advance, before 1pm on match day. Normal admission prices will apply after 1pm on Saturday.
