Sacked Tranmere Rovers manager John Barnes eyes a swift return to the game with Rwanda

FORMER Tranmere manager John Barnes is looking to make a quick return to football – as coach of the Rwanda national team.

Barnes, sacked after just five months in charge Prenton Park, has applied for the job with one of Africa’s poorest and most troubled nations.

Rwandan sports minister Joseph Habineza said: “John Barnes has contacted us about the job. We have his CV, and are weighing up the possibilities.”

The former Liverpool and England midfielder, 45, has endured a turbulent few weeks. Barnes lost his job on October 9 after Rovers lost eight out of 11 League One games under his command.

Barnes has enjoyed some success as an international coach. He guided Jamaica to victory in the Caribbean Cup tournament immediately prior to taking the Tranmere job in June.
