A YOUNG Tranmere side performed better than the scoreline suggests as they suffered a six-goal Puma Youth Alliance defeat in the Potteries.
A strong and powerful Port Vale side made Rovers pay for some less than resilient defending as the tide of the game turned against the visitors. Tranmere enjoyed a good share of possession through much of the game. But they conceded goals on 25 and 26 minutes to a free-kick and a deflection, then a third just before half-time.
Tranmere lost some heart as the Valiants added further goals towards the end.
Tranmere host Chester City in an Alliance fixture at Raby Vale on Saturday, kick-off 11 a.m. Rovers have also been drawn at home to Farsley Celtic in the first round of the FA Youth Cup on November 3, kick-off 7.30pm.
