Tranmere Rovers caretaker manager Les Parry encourages Wayne Allison to go for permanent role

TRANMERE caretaker boss Les Parry is offering his encouragement to coach and assistant Wayne Allison to go after the vacant manager’s job at Prenton Park.

Allison, a fully qualified coach with experience as an assistant manager at two League clubs, has been helping out at Prenton Park since long serving physiotherapist Parry was put in temporary charge of team affairs in 11 days ago.

Allison, known throughout the football world as “The Chief” spent three seasons with Tranmere as a player between 1999 and 2002 and is working alongside reserve and youth coach Shaun Garnett in support of Parry. The trio enjoyed their first success as Rovers notched a 2-1 home win over Brighton last weekend.

Parry says he is uncertain whether he would want to take on the boss’s role on a permanent basis and encouraged Allison to join the long list of applicants who have submitted their names to chairman Peter Johnson.

Parry said: “The Chief was telling me about it and was a bit embarrassed. But I said: put in for the job. It makes no odds whether I want the job or don’t want it, you might as well apply for it.”

Allison has experience as an assistant at both Bury and Chester City, boasts a full UEFA “A” licence and is finishing a PhD in sports science.

He had no hesitation in accepting Parry’s invitation to help out following the departure of John Barnes and Jason McAteer on October 9.
