TRANMERE went out of the Lancashire FA Youth Cup in difficult conditions at rainswept Rossendale.

The visitors were a goal down on 40 minutes but were still in the game until Rochdale struck three times between the 72nd and 79th minutes.

Callum Fairclough came closest for Tranmere with an early effort that was well saved and coach Shaun Garnett said: “The scoreline did not reflect the quality of the performance the lads put in. They played some good football in atrocious conditions.”
