Moore calls for one last victory

TRANMERE manager Ronnie Moore will ask his players to produce one more big performance in a “remarkable” campaign to burst open the door to the League One play-offs at Glanford Park tomorrow.

Rovers require a victory and nothing less in the last game showdown with Scunthorpe United to snatch sixth place from their hosts’ grasp.

Moore declared: “To be in with a shout at this stage is a remarkable achievement by the lads, who have given their all over the first 45 games of the season. They deserve a lot of credit when you look at the clubs above and below us in the table with bigger support and bigger wage bills.

“Now we have just one more hurdle to get over, probably the hardest hurdle of all.”

Moore and his players know they have to strike the right balance in their approach against a Scunthorpe side who can afford to settle for a draw and still join Millwall, MK Dons and Leeds United in the play-offs.

He said: “It is a winner takes all situation for us and we are capable of doing it. We know how to go about it. We can’t afford to go gung-ho at Scunthorpe because you risk getting caught. Then we really are chasing the game.”
