Glad to see loan deals helping League One clubs

IT was good to see Ronnie Moore managed to extend Ryan Shotton’s loan spell this week.

He’s impressed since signing and has shown he can weigh in with goals too, not least that stunning effort last Friday. He’s also a player who likes to get on the ball and pass it out of defence, much like Ian Goodison, so that can only be a good thing.

There has been some interesting loan signings across League One this week, perhaps a sign that players are now starting to see the worth of getting some football under their belts. The highest profile is that of Robbie Savage going to Brighton, it will be interesting to see how that one works out but it certainly puts the media spotlight on this division a little more.

The likes of Kevin Kyle and Luke Chadwick have also come to this level on loan and it’s refreshing to see the bigger name players in the Championship ready to drop to clubs like Brighton and Hartlepool.

Hopefully Tranmere will be able to take advantage over the coming months too.

Today is likely to see us come up against one such player who had a loan spell here last season. Jennison Myrie-Williams will probably be fondly remembered by Tranmere fans, if only for his goal at Leeds. Although I wasn’t his biggest fan, I think we definitely need to find a player in his mould now as we are looking a bit narrow during games at times. Pace in wide areas can stretch teams and put defenders on the back foot, and that’s vital at this level, as teams seem to demonstrate most weeks.

While Chris Shuker fights for his full match sharpness we don’t really have a natural wide player on either side, and I think that is hurting the goal return from the forwards, especially Bas Savage who is the man you’d expect most crosses to be aimed for.
