SHANE Sherriff has joined the summer exodus from Tranmere Rovers by completing a move to Shrewsbury Town.
The versatile Australian signed a two-year deal with the League Two club over the weekend.
Sherriff’s contract with Tranmere expired this month after the 25-year-old made 95 first team appearances in two seasons, scoring nine goals.
Sherriff saw himself first and foremost as a defender but he spent much of the 2007-08 League One campaign with Rovers operating on the left side of midfield, covering for long-term absentee Steve Davies.
He follows senior players Steve Davies, Calvin Zola, Robbie Stockdale and John Mullin out of the Tranmere exit door. Crewe Alexandra completed the £200,000 capture of Zola last week after securing a work permit for the 23-year-old striker from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Rovers expect to collect a fee for Davies, set by a tribunal, following the 20-year-old winger’s move to Championship club Derby County.
Full-back Robbie Stockdale, released by Tranmere at the end of last season, has joined Grimsby Town in League Two and midfielder John Mullin, who was also released, hopes a pre-season trial with Accrington Stanley with lead to a contract.
Tranmere manager Ronnie Moore has so far made one summer signing,
recruiting versatile Australian Gareth Edds from MK Dons. Meanwhile, tickets for Tranmere’s pre-season friendly against Liverpool on July 12 (KO 3pm) went on general sale on Monday.
Juniors (aged 16 and under) who purchase a ticket for the Liverpool game will be entitled to admission to Tranmere’s first home game of the season against Hartlepool United on August 16 (KO 3pm) for only £1. This offer does not apply to juniors in the club’s executive suites.
Chief executive Mick Horton said: “We realise that there will be some supporters at this match who have never been to Prenton Park before or have not been for some time.
“We want them to come back and hope the special offer for juniors will encourage them to come and support us in our first home game of the season against Hartlepool.
“We always pride ourselves on being the best value for money family club in the area and were delighted with the recent results from the Football League Supporters Survey which showed our supporters rank our ticket prices and ticket offers as the best in League One.
“We hope this offer shows our continued commitment to making football accessible for all ages.”
