Various drugs were tried to resuscitate him, including adrenaline, but after an hour, there was still no response and at 8.47pm his death was formally confirmed.
A post-mortem was carried out by Dr George Kokai at Alder Hey hospital on February 9.
At the end of his examination, he withheld cause of death, pending the result of tests.
Coroner Christopher Johnson recorded a verdict that Chris died of natural causes. Speaking outside the inquest, Chris’ father, Richard, said: “It is a great tragedy because he was going to go on to do so many great things.”
An award was set up in his name at Calday and the Chris Salmon Foundation has so far raised £8,000.
Chris had hoped to study English and Russian at university.
After he died, his father said he got straight As and A stars in his mock GCSE exams.
More than 6ft tall, he was also a keen rugby player who was nicknamed “The Tank” because of his style of play.
