£40m Mersey bid for leading cancer centre at Clatterbridge in Wirral

MP worried about losing services to Liverpool

UNDER-FIRE Wirral MP Ben Chapman warned last week that Clatterbridge is “under threat”.

He urged ministers to step into a growing row triggered by a proposal to carry out radiotherapy treatment at The Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

Mr Chapman warned the proposal would inevitably drain resources and staff from Clatterbridge and argued a “satellite service” was already being set up at Aintree Hospital.

Health minister Ann Keen insisted the shake-up would involve “no removal of services” from Clatterbridge.

The proposal for two satellite sites is separate to the Baker Review’s £150m proposals to move far more Clatterbridge services to Liverpool, which is still recommended to happen by 2020.
